100,000 homeowners line up for NACA mortgage help

Nearly 100,000 homeowners converged on the World Congress Center in Atlanta, Ga today, June 11, 2010 hoping to get help saving their homes.

Romoro Aquiles flew in from Los Angeles in hopes of being first in line for a mortgage restructuring seminar being held at the Georgia World Congress Center – turns out he was third in line.

NACA (Neighborhood Assitance Corporation of America) is in Atlanta for the second time. Last year, more than 40,000 people came in search of reduced mortgage payments that NACA counselors negotiate with lenders on site. This time, NACA negotiators will be working around the clock for more than 100 hours.

It’s why Penny Jones of Hampton arrived just after 5 p.m. Thursday evening. She says her own efforts to have her interest rate lowered have been unsuccessful.

Homeowners with an unaffordable mortgage should bring:

* Most recent mortgage statement
* Most recent month of pay stubs
* Copy of property tax bill
* Copy of homeowner’s insurance
* Hardship letter (a paragraph or two about why the mortgage is unaffordable or why it will become unaffordable)

Self–employed homeowners should bring the above plus: Last six months of bank statements

NACA is nationally recognized in permanently reducing interest rates to an affordable payment for thousands of owner-occupant non-investor homeowners. All services are free.

    Can someone come up with some figures?
    How many attended and how many were assisted?
    My guess is 40,000 – 60,000 attended.
    Less than 7% were able to get reductions.
