Cirque du Soleil creates Michael Jackson tribute

The King of Pop is about to become king of the big top.

Michael Jackson’s estate and Cirque du Soleil announced plans Tuesday to produce a touring acrobatics show based on Jackson’s music.

The “concert-like” arena tour is expected to start late next year and visit the New York metropolitan area, a spokesman told the Daily News.

It will culminate in 2012 with a permanent production in Las Vegas at a property owned by the MGM Mirage. A Jacko-inspired nightclub will also open with the Vegas show.

“This will not just be a tribute to Michael’s musical genius, but a live entertainment experience that uses the most advanced technology to push every creative boundary as Michael always did,” estate layer John Branca said in a statement. “Having attended Cirque du Soleil performances with Michael, I know he was a huge fan.”

The estate, which supports Jackson’s three children and his mother Katherine Jackson, will own 50% of the project and share in the cost of production. The estate also will receive royalty payments.

“Our family is thrilled that Cirque du Soleil will pay tribute to my son in such an important way,” Katherine Jackson said in a statement.

Why are you referring to Michael as “Jacko”? It’s a derogatory name that Michael hated while alive. Show some respect for the dead. God knows the media did nothing but perpetuate lies while he was alive which helped to kill him in the end.

True that! The media now needs to make up for what it did to him. Should be an awesome show!
